STW War Story VI

One of the Horde

Happy new year, noble lords of Hojo. I am Miyoshi Tadayoshi, bringing you the most updated war story of our clan. In the last chapter, the Oda Clan was completely eliminated by us in the tough battles of Kawachi and Kii. We were then betrayed by our ally Mori Motonari, who was defeated and killed on the bridge of Kawachi by Hojo Ujiyasu. The Hojo clan's army size was again reduced to 2000 men after all the intense fights.

Spring 1544

Lord Hojo immediately ordered a full-skill recruit in all Kinki provinces with training facility: Iga, Wakasa, Omi, and Kawachi. Expecting many more freshmen entering our force, though they are not so well-trained and equipped...

Taking the chance that Mori has not replenished their soldiers in Tamba, Lord Hojo organized a total attack on Yamashiro, the emperor office. I was honored to be the commander of this glorious action, commanding half of Hojo's men at once!

Yamashiro Hojo 1183 Miyoshi Tadayoshi (R5)

Our enemy was composed of 300 warrior monks and 240 archers, hiding in the forest on the left. Since their armor is thin, I ordered the archers to pour arrows into the forest first. Soon the 300 monks rushed out all at once!
Our left flank was a total disaster, but the right flank had an obvious numerical advantage. The archers was asked to join the melee to eliminate the monks on the right as soon as possible!
Without immediate support, our left flank collapsed without a doubt. However, their sacrifice has brought us precious time to completely eliminated the enemy right flank. While all our center now pour into the left to face the monks, our archers marched forward to start a shootout with the enemy archers emerging from the woods!
The enemy taisho stopped chasing our routing left flank, but instead charged into the HORDE of Hojo, 5 times of their size! All the peasants mopped up!
The enemy taisho was killed! Now we only have 240 archers left to handle. Everybody aim for the woods!
The enemy was not as dumb as their monk taisho. They swiftly marched away in two directions, attempting to distract our army. But their attempt was futile. We had a much greater number to handle them! Ordering the three groups of archers to slowly get close to the second group, all the yari troops were ordered to chase down the first group who attempted to occupy the very high ground.
The first group was outnumbered by the horde - routed.
The second group, although marched really far away, had the same destiny eventually. The emperor has declared his support of the Hojo clan!

Summer 1544

Yamashiro is now ours.

Lord Hojo immediately requested reinforcement into Tamba and Kawachi, so we can defend against Mori in case they dared challenge us again.

At the same time, I was ordered to prepare for the assault in Ise!

Autumn 1544

With all units in Owari, Omi, Iga, Yamato and Kii, 729 men of Hojo gathered in Ise. Facing an enemy with exactly the same composition as Yamashiro two seasons ago. But our army is much smaller this time...

What the! All armies from Owari, Iga, Yamato and Kii were yari ashigaru! Well, it is too late to call off the attack. The ashigaru horde of Hojo has to face the monks again, this time with a much weaker army composition. So how can we prevail? Much think of some better way...

Anyways, lets not face the enemy heads on. I ordered my men to approach the enemy from the right, this way we don't suffer from height disadvantage.

Immediately we spotted ONE group of enemy warrior monks rushing down the little hill. Do they think the peasants of Hojo so useless?

We revenged the insult by leaving no survivor of that mink unit. In a short time, our army was ready again to go on. There were more monks here!
But the enemy swiftly moved all their monks to the right, maybe preparing for a flank attack!

We cannot give them the chance. While ordering one archer group just to the edge of the plateau guarding, the yari ashigaru of Hojo should rushed into the enemy archers and teach them the rage of the Hojo Horde!

The bloody archers attempted to march away, the old skirmish mode trick. But it won't work here - the light-foot (ashigaru) horde prevailed by their speed and number!
There was again one group of monks dared challenge us. They were destroyed down to one digit before exit the battlefield.

However, the other half of the enemy, including about 180 monks and 120 archers, has marched away into the woods!

My men were already very tired, so we proceed slowly to the rest of the enemy. Using one group of YA as the bait, the enemy monk rushed out! The bait ashigaru are suffered very heavy losses!
We finally managed to destroy the enemy - the enemy taisho attempted to flee but failed with his entire unit. However, we failed to intercept 2 men... the day is ending! Chasing with your full speed! Run boys!
Our ashigaru tried their best to chase... exhausted, started to waver.

Still, we lost the battle by failing to wait till the enemy flee out of the battlefield! We shall revenge fore this!

Winter 1544

Ise Hojo 729 Miyoshi Tadayoshi (R5)
Ronin 80 Matsuura Kazumasa (R1)

The first defeat of Hojo - in such a strange way. Even so, the ashigaru performed unexpectedly well against the enemy monks in such a little numerical advantage.

The huge army of Hojo, led by me again, came back to Ise right in the next season, facing the enemy of only 80...

They fled again!

The fearless monks in Yamashiro and Ise utterly suppressed. In the mean time, the Hojo clan has made sufficient recruit to carry on their campaign. It comes the time to punish the betrayer Mori!
