New interview - Friday, September 26, 2003
Headover to Homelan to read a new interview with ian Roxborough. Some new goodies and some old ones. Some people seems obsessed with flaming pigs, so there's important news for you there if you're a choirophile. (People who have better Greek than mine are welcome to correct that...)

Most importantly this important feature has been SCRAPPED!

There is no truth that every copy of the game will come with free pork scratchings

Shocking.

.com have a new unit profile as well, the double handed axeman. But if you go to our forums you can discuss it there instead.

The triple acies completed... - Monday, September 8, 2003
a new unit from .com today, the principes which means that now only the velites are missing for a full Polybian legion...

Legion Principes
The Principes are slightly older men, reliable warriors, and continue a battle once the Hastati are spent. Principes are heavy spearmen who make up the second line of an early Republican Legion. They recruited in the prime of their lives in their late 20s and early 30s. They wear mail, a bronze helmet, carry a long shield and also a long sword for both cutting and thrusting under an enemy’s shield.

Principes march in the centre of a Legion’s three parallel battle columns and take the middle line when the Legion wheels into battle. At crucial moments in battle they are ordered forward through Hastati to press an attack. They also cover gaps in the maniple formations used by the Legion as a whole.

Time Commanders: Trebia Battle Report - Thursday, September 4, 2003
Well the first battle was fought tonight in the brillant new TV show Time Commanders. The battle was Fought Between the two mighty arimes of Rome and Cathage at the snowy battle of Trebia. The four contestants who's goal it was to destroy the roman army was in command of the Carthaginians whos strengh lay in their mighty Elephants, Cavalry and the Phalanx while the Romans had their heavy legions and light Velites. The battle began with the advance of the Roman legions in a long line, but strong reserves marching behind them just infront of the plains. The Carthaginians drew the army up in the plains of trebia, while their cavalry was in the trees, on the flanks of the romans. The battle got off to a good start for the Carthaginians who made an early but succesfull attack on the right flank of the roman flank destroying their entire cavalry on the right flank of their army, the romans responded with commiting about 3 reserves to deal with the Carthaginian Numidian Cavalry and Spanish Heavy Cavalry. The Carthaginians then struck the left flank of the romans with more Numidian Cavalry, which made the romans take heavy losses and commit some reserves to deal with the left flank being attacked. At this point the Carthaginians lanched their main offensive by unleasing their war elephants which stuck into the Roman lines with deverstaing effects on the roman infantry, Soon arfter the elephants had hit the roman lines, rushed in the mighty Phalanx which was used to deadly affect as the roman struggled to get in between the huge pikes. Shortly arfter, the Iberian Heavy Infantry charged in and began battling it out with roman legions, while war elephants ran though the lines of the legion making huge gaps for Carthaginian troops to fill in.

The Carthaginian Cavalry on the right flank started to take heavy loses, and began to make a controlloed withdrawal but the spainish heavy cavalry fled the battlefield completly. The cavalry on the left flank of the battlefield which had just finished off the roman left flank, started to make a controlled withdrawal only turning and attacking the roman heavy infantry. Not soon arfter the Roman general was trapped and the romans started to flee, the Carthaginians had won impressive and sucessfull battle over the Romans.

Rating 4/5

New features:
-The ability to cross rivers at fords by walking through the water
-Elephants Are more of big teddy bears they seem to cause more havock then death
-Ambush tactics have received a boost, you now have the ability to hide behind trees so you can now use terrain with more effect against the AI as it seems to work on a line of sight basis when checking to see if it can see your units.
-Controlled Withdrawals.
-From what i could see Huge maps i'd estimate, 5 times bigger then MTW largest.

New Units:
Numidian Cavalry
Spanish Heavy Cavalry
Iberian Heavy Infantry
Balearic Slingers
Phalanx
Velites
War Elephants

New building description at .com. - Wednesday, September 3, 2003

New Building Description

Yet another building is added to the Building description over at the official site.

Armourer
An Armourer increases the quality of armour supplied to all troops trained in a settlement. He is a highly specialist smith who concentrates on producing the armour required by local warriors: shields, scale or ring mail shirts, cuirasses, greaves and helmets. He will have a good supply of metal from local blacksmiths and small-scale foundries, and it is his skill that creates something strong, light, comfortable and capable of deflecting an arrow or sword strike. A good Armourer is prized by any people, and is usually very rewarded for his work. He is usually able to afford a large household of servants, slaves and apprentices.

New unit description on the official site - Monday, September 1, 2003

Total War.com has released a new unit description ; the Barbarian axeman.

Barbarian Axemen
Axemen are close combat warriors. It is their task to break open an enemy line or formation so that their brother warriors can exploit the breach.

Axemen are powerful warriors chosen for their size and strength to wield the heavy francisca, a single-headed axe that can split a shield, cuirass, helmet or the skull beneath with a single blow. They also carry heavy shields (to bash opponents as much as for protection) and wear helmets but only light armour. Speedy charges are important, but there is a degree of bravado too, in showing contempt for the enemy's best efforts!

Roughly organised into warbands, they are used to hack a way into an enemy line and open a hole for their comrades to exploit. This role is risky, but it is seen as heroic and an opportunity for glory and greatness not to be squandered. Axemen are very brave and are not usually disheartened by their own casualties.
