More RTW goodness for the masses... - Friday, June 27, 2003
It's Friday, so all sorts of new excitement for you today. First and foremost we have news of the next unit for Rome: Total War, the Agema Phalangites. See http://www.totalwar.com/community/unit1.htm for details.

Secondly comes news that from next week .com will have a building descriptions page, and as a taster here's the description they've released of the Vomitorium. Keep you peacock feathers handy...

The Vomitorium is a sign of "Roman-ness" and sophistication. It is a chamber to one side of a dining area in the largest Roman houses, where guests who have stuffed themselves with food can go to make themselves sick. Wealthy Romans enjoy feasting and will consume many exotic dishes at a feast: stuffed mice, ostriches, flamingo and peacocks followed by many sickly sweet honey-based puddings. All this food is accompanied by a huge quantity of wine and some feasts can last for days. Very influential people will attend these functions, and so no one wants to leave early, meaning that the Vomitorium becomes the place to empty a full stomach and return quickly to the party!

A recent preview and interview from Worldwidegamenet.com, About Rome Totalwar tells us some nice infomation some of us have been waiting to know.

"On the battle field, up to 40 of your units can be on, however, you can only control one army, which can have up to 20 units, and opt to have computer generals lead more of your armies into battle."

Basiclly Instead of our usual 16 units, we now have a massive 20 units to choose from.

"To the pleasure of many, Rome will be sporting FMV videos for such in game events as capturing a wonder and natural disasters."

Now Shogun Totalwar players will be happy to know this, as are many other people.

Pc Gamers Demo Review - Tuesday, June 24, 2003
Pc Gamer have got their hands on the demo of Rome Totalwar, They clearly rated it very high, and a must have. We've got our hands on the review, thanks to MiniKiller.

Its under the section "20 best games of E3"

Stunning Strategy in full 3D
Rome: Total War (Release date: 2004)

After seeing the demo for Rome: Total War, the upcoming third installment in the Total War series, I was literally speechless. Yes, it really looked that good.

First off, the battles are now rendered in glorious 3D. All of the models are fully polygonal and detailed with 3,000 motion-captured movements. With battles that will feature upward of 12,000 to 13,000 men, the new graphics infuse the entire experience with a more epic, gritty flavor as dust flies when your troops rush across the ground and swarms of men stream up ladders to attack the soldiers defending a city's ramparts.

The most impressive site was a horde of Carthaginian elephants, their riders charging them into a neatly ordered infantry line, trampling these poor soldiers underfoot or smashing them with their tusks and sending them flying through the air. It was an utterly fantastic display.

Beyond splendid eye candy in the organized troop lines, the cities also look marvelous. All of the buildings and structures that you creat in the strategic map mode appear on the battle map, and all of them can be destroyed, burned, and otherwise pulverized.

The strategic map is also being overhauled. It covers the same basic territory as Medieval's map, but instead of you sliding pieces around, they now animate, and you can see your troops march toward their destination. Also, the geography of the strategic map will match the battle map, so if you launch an attack in a forest, the battle will be set in a forest.

This game is at the top of my must-have list.
