MTW demo available for download on Wednesday - Friday, June 21, 2002
Erado informs us that there's an update on the .com forum on a number of issues, including that the demo will be available on Wednesday from a number of sites for download .

Also if you are interested in the latest previews i recommend gamespy, although the updated preview at gamespot has one interesting info about a historical battle editor. If you are kind of a maniac, like me, and have to absolutely read everything you can find about the game, you can add the PC"IGN preview and the Action vault preview.

Medieval: TW News - Monday, June 10, 2002
While below you can see a picture of the probable box for the game, more news on Medieval: Total War are coming up. As you probably know Medieval was featured in this year's E3 show and as expected it turned out to be a huge success. Many magazines and gaming sites featured Medieval in the "Best of E3" rankings, a good example would be GameSpy.

On the sites front, TenkiMadoka has made a really awesome site featuring a fictional clan in the upcoming game. Check it out here. It is really worth the visit! The Org is currently preparing a huge section on Medieval, stay tuned...!

1.03, new BiF editor, mappack - Wednesday, June 5, 2002
CA is very busy with the next TotalWar title and thus a new beta/official patch will be very unlikely.

Some online players have worked on the development of a new stat though. This stat is now ready and available for download. The only difference between the 3 versions is the compression/install method. The stats work with any version of STW WE/MI 1.02 beta. The download also contains the original 1.01 beta and 1.02 beta stats, and a batfile to make swapping a snap. There are also five slots to manage your own custom stats.

The stat works in friendly games, competive games have their own build in stat. The directory Stats/103stats contains a readme explaining the details. Download
StatSwapper2.0.exe to get 1.03 (Swapper allows to go back and forth to 1.02 beta). WinXP users can't use the bat file as WinXP doesn't recognise some used commands, we're looking into this.

RSW san has made a new verion of his excellent BIFReader, a very nice tool and must have for any editor. It's stil under development, feedback in the edit forum is appreciated.

Virus Alert and Tourney Ending - Saturday, June 1, 2002
Recently many members of the community have been bombarded by emails containing the notorious W32.Klez.H@mm, a dangerous worm that has been a headache for many Internet users in the last weeks. The emails containing these viruses have senders and subjects that are related to the Shogun community and some honourable members of the community have also been accused of sending these infected emails. This is certainly not the case - these viruses derive from someone who is close to the community but has the worst intentions. We will do our best to stop this annoying happening. For security reasons please make sure you install a good anti-virus software and download Symantec's Win32.Klez removal tool here.

Apart from these bad news, today we have also some good news. Boromir's 1v1 MI tournament, hosted by The Org, is finally over and the victory goes to DRBNinja Shimazu, a member of the Grey Wolves clan. He will receive a champion icon on our great Dojo. The second place goes to RTKElrich, certainly a worthy opponent. DRB has also been so kind to give us the recording of the final! Download it here. Extract it to the /DumpLog folder in your Shogun directory. (it will overwrite your current replay file!) For those who don't know how to use the recorder I'll repost how to get it to work below.

This recorder was already in the game - it was used by the development team as a debug feature - but only recently it was discovered that it also worked with the finished game! For the recorder to work a small operation has to be carried out.

To record a battle
Find any shortcut for your Shogun executable - right click and click on properties. Go to the tab Shortcut and find the field Target. It should read (wherever it is installed)\Shogun.exe
Now change that to: (wherever it is installed)\ShogunM.exe ER Use ShogunW.exe if you're using the Warlord Edition. Now you got the Recorder installed. Just run the game through that shortcut and your most recent battle will be recorded to the folder /DumpLog. Unfortunately, recordings are always saved to the same file name, so each battle that is recorded will overwrite the previous recording.

To playback the battle
Make a copy of a shortcut for the Shogun executable and do the same process as above, but this time change the target path to:
(wherever it is installed)\ShogunM.exe mEP Use ShogunW.exe if you're using the Warlord Edition. Then just run the game from this shortcut - and this will replay the most recently recorded battle. At the end of the battle, all the troops will freeze and just escape out.

If you have any questions/difficulties/suggestions please do post them at our forums, the mighty Sword Dojo.
